****Please note - You are receiving this email because you are listed in
the **Confirmed Summit Attendees: Seeking Funds /
Sponsorship<http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Template:Summit_2011_Attendee#Confirmed_Summit_Attendees:_Seeking_Funds.2FSponsorship>
section
of the Summit 2011
Attendee<http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Template:Summit_2011_Attendee>page***
*

Since there is not enough money currently available to cover all individuals
(both OWASP leaders and key industry players) listed on the Confirmed
Summit Attendees: Seeking Funds /
Sponsorship<http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Template:Summit_2011_Attendee#Confirmed_Summit_Attendees:_Seeking_Funds.2FSponsorship>
section
of the Summit 2011
Attendee<http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Template:Summit_2011_Attendee>page,
it became necessary to create a pragmatic and objective ranking system
for choosing the priority of sponsorship funding (note that this same
ranking system will also be used to allocate any new sponsorship funds that
become available).

The ranking system that will be used to evaluate OWASP leaders and key
industry players seeking funds to attend the Summit is our first pass at an
OWASP Points system, which will be presented and examined in greater details
at the Summit. Here is how the ranking system works:

   - Your "rank" (to determine your priority in receiving sponsorship funds)
is based on your score (total points), based on the OWASP activities you
have participated in over the last couple of years.
   - This solution uses MediaWiki technology to store your
points/score/ranking information. We are asking you to help us by checking
and updating your own page directly (see below).

To create the base model for this system, Paulo Coimbra took a first pass at
compiling data and made as many mappings for the sponsorship applicants as
he was aware of. These initial point compilations (and your current
ranking) can be viewed at:
http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Summit_2011_Attendee/Stats

To head off your likely first reaction: I KNOW THAT WE ARE MISSING DATA and
that SOME OF YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE POINTS!!!

*SO .... ASAP... WE NEED YOU ALL ... TO GO TO YOUR PAGE .... AND
EDIT/UPDATE YOUR DETAILS!*
*
*
*You need to do this before this Friday, January 7th* since that is the date
we are going to create the first full mapping.

For your reference, here is the link to your edit page (this is the same
that is linked from the Summit 2011

*Once you get to your page, you will want to update the following variables
which are mapped/used by the ranking system (and hopefully are self
explanatory ) .* This first example shows Ralph's data:

|-
| Project Leadership (less than 6 months old) =
| Project Leadership (more than 6 months old) =
| Release Leadership (less than 6 months old) =
| Release Leadership (more than 6 months old) =
| Project Contribution (less than 6 months old) =
| Project Contribution (more than 6 months old) =
| Release Contribution (less than 6 months old) =
| Release Contribution (more than 6 months old) =
| Committee Membership = Conferences
| Chapter Co-Leadership = Rochester
| Conference Co-Leadership = Rochester Security Summit 08, Rochester
Security Summit 09, Rochester Security Summit 10

At the moment, *the formula* (used to calculate how many points each person
has) *allocates one (1) point per item*.* Multiple points will be allocated
if a leader has more than one value in one variable* (for example a leader
that was involved in the organization of more than one conference). Please
take into consideration that we are still tweaking the points system, and
that some of these 'rules of engagement' might change (and yes, in case you
noticed, this first set of variables is quite 'project-heavy' and that is
something that will either be addressed in this current solution, or in the
final solution (to be deployed to ALL owasp leaders))

Lets look at another case. For example Juan Calderon who has quite a number
of entries:

|-
| Project Leadership (less than 6 months old) =
| Project Leadership (more than 6 months old) = Classic ASP Security
Project, Spanish Project, Internationalization Project
| Release Leadership (less than 6 months old) =
| Release Leadership (more than 6 months old) = Classic ASP Security Project,
 Spanish Project, Internationalization Project
| Project Contribution (less than 6 months old) =
| Project Contribution (more than 6 months old) =
| Release Contribution (less than 6 months old) =
| Release Contribution (more than 6 months old) = Top 2007 Spanish
Translation, Testing Guide Translation, Code Review Translation
| Committee Membership =
| Chapter Co-Leadership =
| Conference Co-Leadership = OWASP Day Mexico 2010

>From the data above, you should be able to see how Juan has 10 points (which
is the value shown at
http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Summit_2011_Attendee/Stats)

Part of the reason why you are being asked to edit/update this data is that
the idea/model is that each leader should maintain their own data (with
OWASP's community keeping an eye of any abuses (I don't expect that many
leaders will abuse this system since that, when detected, would seriously
damage his/her reputation))

*For the cases where your chapter HAS FUNDS that can be used to cover your
cost: *Please also fill in your details (and for the cases where you have
told Sarah (or filled the chapter survey) about your chapter ability to fund
you, we will remove your name from the ranking list (and move up who comes
next).

Now, the data in http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Summit_2011_Attendee/Stats is
all based on the information stored in those MediaWiki templates. To
actually create that Page, I wrote a number of O2
<http://o2platform.com/> scripts
that (using a dynamic C# Parser) are able to transform that template data
into strongly-typed C# classes (which are then used to calculate the points and
create the page (I'm happy to provide more details if you are interested in
the technology behind this). *The practical effect of this, is that you will
NOT see real-time updates in
http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Summit_2011_Attendee/Stats* (me or Sarah will
be maintaining that page (which is basically just a case of running an O2
script that loads the data and creates/publishes the Stats page (this script
is now part of O2))

Please feel free to contact me or Sarah Baso (sarah.baso at owasp.org) if you
have any questions or problems in updating your details. As you can see I
CCed all of you, so please try not to click on REPLY ALL :)

Thanks for you help and last, but not least, thanks for your patience as we
put this system together!
