Hey all,

I just wanted to follow up on my presentation at last month's OWASP
meeting about HECTOR and let folks know the source code is now
available for download in advance of the Educause Security
Professionals conference in Indianapolis. Details are at
https://sites.sas.upenn.edu/kleinkeane/software/hector. I haven't yet
set up a collaborative environment on account of I can't decide if
it's worth it (not sure if folks actually want to help out) and I've
got a couple years worth of CVS log and development data that I'm
gonna lose if I move to Git. Mainly I'm releasing the code now to
give folks an idea of how the tool is put together - it's not intended
to be a completely functional release

Sadly I had to code freeze before implementing a number of really
cool features because they were just way too buggy and beta. Right
now there isn't support in the database for vulnerability tracking,
but that will be the very next addition. Also, the interface for
scheduling scans isn't completely working, so if you want to set up
scans you have to drop them directly into the scan_type table (the
interface for setting flags is sort of busted at the moment).

I'm definitely interested in feedback of any sort. I should
probably set up a more formal channel for development announcements
but in the meantime feel free to e-mail me directly.

Cheers,
