There is a very worth while initiative I wanted to share with you.
A while back a friend reach out about to program with the UK police to help
young people who have demonstrated an intrest in hacking to be shown an
appropriate cyber career path (i.e. responsible desclosure/white hat
programs/bug bounties etc..). Attending OWASP events and using the
associated training materials would be a good start. Additionally they are
looking for mentorship opportunities to provide closer guidance.
If you are intrested in helping young people learn more about cybersecurity
and becoming a white hat, please feel free to reach out to me or Stephanie
Frankish (steph.frankish at ersou.pnn.police.uk).
*Note:* A lot of the mentorships can be done online so do not feel like
location is an issue.
*PS:* On a personal note, I think this is really important, when you are
young it's important to learn from your mistakes and have a safe place to
learn and explore.
The internet can be a vast canvas to play with, and sometimes the
conseconeces can be harsh. So it's nice to provide young people a helping
hand, show them where the guardrails are, and that a career in
cybersecurity is a fun and worthwhile presuit.
