Today there was a news story about an individual allegedly associated with
OWASP threatening physical harm to another person, in this case the
President Elect of the Unites States.
I want to let the community know that OWASP Staff have responded to the
publication to understand and clarify the association to OWASP, which has
since been removed from the published article. There is a post from the
staff here: http://owasp.blogspot.com/.
Staff have also responded to a number of very angry complaints from the
community, some of which are, in turn, threatening to various parties. We
are co-operating with police and ensuring that we meet all of our legal
obligations in reporting events. Although many of the complaints and
emails may be coming from outside of our community, I would still like to
ask that we please be conscious that staff are handling this carefully and
treat them and everyone else in the community with respect per our Code of
Although we believe the individual's association to OWASP (or lack thereof)
is not relevant to the news story, we want to very clearly state that OWASP
as an organization in no way condones assault or threats of assault to
anyone anywhere. Such threats or actions represent a clear violation of
our Code of Ethics and have no place in our community.
I thank each of you for your ongoing and awesome contributions to our
community. Let’s move on and keep making software secure.
OWASP Board Chair
