You are missing the third and most important model, especially since we are
a charitable non-profit organization:

3) Free training for anyone

It's this model, to my utter amazement, has been blocked a few times at
large OWASP conferences.

There is also option four:

4) Increase the cost of admission, expand the training program, and offer
it to everyone as part of a new kind of "education" conference.

I think technically that should not be a problem.
(e.g. our team could prepare a second type agreement text for the trainer
that does not contain a trainer fee, or sets the trainer fee to zero.)

Btw. I note that there seem to be two models:
1. all proceeds go to OWASP
2. trainer receives maximum "expenses only" and the remaining proceeds go
to OWASP if that turns out in OWASP favor over the current split. (this
second one is a bit ambiguous and I guess we should define what that means
before we use that in class advertising)

All the best, Tobias

I think the option should be there. Is there anything prevention this

I'm a fan of this line of thinking. I think instructors should also have
the option of teaching for "expenses only" if the numbers work out in
OWASP's favor.

There is so much more OWASP could do to expand upon it's training program,
but I definitely think this is a step in the right direction.

Dear operations staff: We are not changing policy, we are just having an
open discussion. :)

  Hello OWASP Leaders,

I have an idea for training events moving forward. Currently for training
events, OWASP gets a percentage of the training revenue and the instructor
gets a percentage of the training revenue. However, there are many
instructors (myself included) who would rather not be compensated for
training at OWASP events.

Therefore, I suggest we have an option where the instructor can donate
their proceeds to a specific OWASP chapter or project. It would be great if
that was advertised as part of the class (i.e. "proceeds for this class
will be donated to fund the ZAP project", or "proceeds for this class will
go towards GoatDroid", etc... )

The obvious response to this is "well, then just donate the money" -
however, I would like to have it all done within OWASP itself, without me
having to be involved handling the money at all.

This would allow OWASP instructors and participants to vote with their
currency. Personally, if I was on the fence about a particular project,
and found out the instructor was going to donate the proceed to reviving
OWASP CAL9000, that would push me towards signing up.
