FYI: a message from the chair of another open standards organisation
(the IETF) on security and pervasive monitoring:

Maybe an example worth following with a very small statement (max 1
page) from OWASP stating along the lines that "the reports about
large-scale monitoring of Internet traffic and users disturbs us greatly."
And explaining why some subversive behaviour by government agencies is
threatening application security for the whole population in general.
