Hello OWASP Leaders,

My name is Josh Sokol and I am a candidate for the OWASP Board of
Directors. In just a few days the Foundation will begin its annual process
to elect some of the individuals who will guide this organization over the
next couple years. Thus, I figured that now would be a good time to tell
you who I am and why I would like your vote.

I have been involved with OWASP for almost seven years now. What started
as me helping to book a meeting room at my company's facilities has led me
to do things with and for the Foundation that I never imagined. I've
served as the OWASP Austin Chapter's Vice President and President and
continue to serve on the leadership team to this date. I served as the
Chair of the OWASP Global Chapters Committee for over a year until the
committee structure was dissolved, during which time I helped to re-write
the Chapter Handbook and provided much needed oversight and guidance for
chapter activities. I Co-Founded our chapter's Lonestar Application
Security Conference which now hosts over 300 attendees over four days and
raises enough money to allow the Austin Chapter to be entirely
self-sufficient where funding is concerned, plus gives a large donation
back to the OWASP Foundation each year. And I Co-Chaired the 2012 OWASP
AppSecUSA Conference in Austin, TX setting a Foundation record for both
number of attendees and money raised.

Having been a Chapter Leader myself, I know the challenges you all face.
It's not easy and I think that often we see the OWASP Board creating
policies that further restrict a chapter's ability to innovate and thrive.
It's not their fault, they just don't understand because many of them have
never been in your shoes. If elected, my goal would be to figure out ways
to bring the power back to the people. OWASP membership starts at the
Chapter level and the Foundation needs to understand that having successful
chapters is key to fulfilling OWASP's mission. I would sincerely
appreciate your vote for the OWASP Board of Directors so that I can better
assist all of you in making your chapters as successful as possible.
Tomorrow morning, at 9 AM CST, I will be on the OWASP Live Board Candidate
Interview call and look forward to answering any questions that you may
