[Owasp-leaders] Rackspace, Migration, Stepping down

Thank you all who have either publically or personally sent me emails.

I would like to clarify, this choice to move on is much less financial than
this thread is heading. It's just time to move forward and let somebody else
lead the infrastructure. With the move to Rackspace, I feel more comfortable
with others around the world having access to the network.

I agree that OWASP does need more than one sysadmin, especially around the
world. Yes, it sucked getting a call on the weekend that OWASP was down
because some J.A. decided to attack us. Or the most recent outage, which was
a drive going down in an array, but the drive wouldn't just drop out and
rather hang in there slowing things down. And always when out of town with
friends trying to focus on winning races. But that was the job and it needed
to be taken care of. For some reason OWASP is a target J

Finally, I thank Aspect for asking me to help support OWASP. This has been a
good learning experience for my career. And to clarify, I only tracked my
time spent on OWASP with Aspect if it was during business hours and took a
significant amount of time. All other times were my donation to the cause.
The first 5 plus/minus years of graphic work was done as a contribution. I
have been paid for graphic work more recently.

Larry's role is one of infrastructure and needs to be paid. I was also under
the impression that he received some financial compensation for his efforts
(specially when outside normal working hours)

Losing Larry would be a big loss for OWASP and we should take this
opportunity to clarify this role 'systems admin' which we will always need.

It is amazing that Larry lasted so long (given the indecision and lack of
clarification of his role) and it just shows how much the cares about OWASP.

It is not up to Larry to propose a solution, it is OWASP responsibility to
make an offer. At the moment the OWASP available budgets are distributed to
the multiple chapters and committees. So if you don't want to lose Larry,
find a budget for him (or for a new system admin) within your current funds

Your reliability and skills will be missed. Thanks for all your time and
effort over the years. You are a corner stone of owasp.

Thanks so much for all of your excellent work over the years. If there is
any one particular issue that is driving this decision please do bring that
up and perhaps we can help address that problem.

However, we all also understand if you are just ready to move on to other
projects and get some of your free time back. Again, I can't thank you
enough for all the hard work you've provided to the organization.

The contract is just about done for Rackspace, so here is the plan.

1. Migrate OWASP's wiki to the new hosted environment.

2. Migrate OWASP's Ads to the new hosted environment.

3. Migrate OWASP Rugged Code to the new hosted environment.

4. Migrate OWASP's email list content to the new hosted environment.

Once OWASP is relocated to its new home, OWASP will need to find another
administrator to manage the new infrastructure. If somebody wants to step
forward now and help with the move, that would be the best time to set
things up the way you want.

Thank again for the opportunity to be a part of this great organization.
