Liberty Center One invites you to participate in a new chapter of OWASP –
the Open Web Application Security Project. The first meeting will be held
on March 8 from 7 pm – 9 pm at Liberty Center One – please see the
following press release. We are excited to be part of this group and hope
that it will help promote information security best practices.

(Royal Oak, MI February 24, 2012). Rarely does a day pass without another
company making national news, not by developing a state-of-the-art product
but by becoming compromised due to poor information security. The people
responsible for building, managing, and securing IT systems for businesses
are looking for answers and guidance.

To help the local IT community, a new chapter of the Open Web Application
Security Project (OWASP). OWASP Detroit is being launched, sponsored by
Liberty Center One and led by Josh Little and J. Wolfgang Goerlich. OWASP
Detroit will officially kick off in March and will conduct an ongoing
conversation on improving Web application security, along with regular
meetings.

“As security has become more of a priority for enterprises, risk has
migrated from systems and services to the applications businesses use to
interact with their customers,” says Josh Little. “Throughout the years, I
have turned to OWASP as a guiding factor in how I approach application
security. I would like to give back some of that effort to OWASP and the
local community to help improve the state of application security and lead
those who come after us through the pitfalls we have already navigated.”

“Cloud computing is rapidly shifting from hype to reality. New applications
and services are built online using Web technologies,” adds J. Wolfgang
Goerlich. “This creates a tremendous opportunity for businesses and
attackers alike. With everything from apps to APIs using it, the Web is
becoming perhaps the largest attack surface in modern history. OWASP
Detroit will be on the front lines of protecting this surface for Michigan
businesses.”

Tim Mullahy, Managing Director for Liberty Center One commented, “Our
position, as the trusted provider for customers of any size, gives us a
unique vantage to view the changing security threats. We pride ourselves on
providing a safe, secure physical and virtual environment, protected and
monitored 24/7. Sponsoring OWASP Detroit is another example of our
dedication to assisting our customers in their efforts to deliver Web
services in a secure fashion.”

The inaugural meeting of OWASP Detroit will be held at Liberty Center One,
4815 Delemere Avenue, Royal Oak, on March 8th, 2012 from 7-9 pm. This
meeting is open for all to attend and does not require OWASP membership.
