To: owasp-leaders <owasp-leaders at owasp.org>

Happy new year chapter Leaders,

Global Conference Committee is pleased to announce it’s call for
Global AppSec Conferences for the 2013 calendar year!

Global AppSec conferences are the flagship of the OWASP outreach
effort. They are international conferences that typically include
multiple days of multi-track plenary sessions in addition to
pre-conference training offerings.  For more information about Global
AppSec conferences, see the How to Host a conference page

The Global Conferences Committee is currently soliciting proposals for
four Global AppSec conferences in 2013. Conferences will be selected
to facilitate one Global AppSec conference in each quarter of the year
with conferences held in North America, South America, Europe and the
Asia Pacific regions.  The following schedule is the preferred
quarters for each Global AppSec events, submissions in these times
will be given highest priority.

Global AppSec Asia Pacific - Q1 (Applications due by March 1st 2012)
Global AppSec Europe - Q2 (Applications due by June 1st 2012)
Global AppSec North America - Q3 (Applications due by September 1st 2012)
Global AppSec Latin America - Q4 (Applications due by December 1st 2012)

Additionally, we prefer for the location of Global AppSec conferences
to change from year to year... so if your region has not yet hosted a
conference and you are ready for the challenge, please let us know!
Here are the locations where the conferences were held in 2011 and are
planned already for 2012:

Global AppSec Europe 2011 - Dublin, Ireland
Global Appsec North America 2011 - Minneapolis, MN, USA
Global AppSec Latin America 2011 - Porto Alegre, Brazil
Global AppSec Asia Pacific 2011 - Beijing, China

Global AppSec Asia Pacific 2012 - Sydney, Australia
Global Appsec Europe 2012 - Athens, Greece
Global AppSec North America 2012 - Austin, Texas, USA
Global AppSec Latin America 2012 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Still reading?  Great your interested!  Putting on a Global AppSec
conference is a really rewarding experience.  These are the flagships
of the OWASP outreach effort and can be a lot of fun.  While the GCC
does exercise a bit more oversight over these events, we do our best
to let you run with your own ideas so you can really make your mark.
Some things to consider before sending in an application:

First, review the How to Host a conference page
(http://www.owasp.org/index.php/How_to_Host_a_Conference).  This page
hosts a variety of information about planning an OWASP event, as well
as various requirements and policies that have been put in place by
the foundation to govern Global AppSec Conferences.
Gather a small team together who are interested in working the event.
Trust us, you can’t do it all yourself.
Work with your local planning team to acquire some basic information
(location, tentative dates, possible venues, costs, theme, etc) about
your event.
Prepare a rough budget plan using the OWASP Budget Planning Tool
(http://www.owasp.org/index.php/Conference_Budget_Planning_Tool).  We
understand that you may not have quotes and good estimates for all of
the budget items but please put forward the best information you have.
Some events have chosen to put together a short presentation
describing the organizing committee, previous conference experience,
existing local supporting organizations, local attractions, access to
transportation, local culture and more. In general, these are
presentations to 'pitch' your city to the committee. Examples of
successful presentations http://bit.ly/i9rgA1 andhttp://bit.ly/gsA2wI.
Submit your application at https://ocms.owasp.org/

We really appreciate every proposal we receive.  Just by applying for
a conference, you are demonstrating your commitment to OWASP by
offering to host one of it’s best public outreach initiatives.  Please
keep in mind that there are many factors that go into selecting
GlobalAppSec Conference locations and not every proposal will be
approved.  We also realize that this could be very early in your
planning process, and therefore challenging for you to provide
detailed information, just provide the best available information.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the Global
Conferences Committee (global_conference_committee at lists.owasp.org),
Mark Bristow (mark.bristow at owasp.org) the Conferences Committee Chair,
or Sarah Baso (sarah.baso at owasp.org) Conferences Committee Support.

We look forward to your proposals.
