This is worth having an *emergency board meeting* and a vote on; the second
issue of funding can be handled as ordinary business. We will all still
spend many weeks identifying a suitable candidate, before we need to have a
solution for funding - and we have no further time to waste on this issue.

+1 for yes we need a conference manager.

Adding two reasons:
1. there is a lot of learning to transfer from one conference to the
next. No need to make the same mistakes over and over again.
2. conferences are one of our key flagship contact points with the
public, so we should focus on doing them well.
3. we generate major funding through our conferences. It is good
business sense to invest in handling them well; possibly this can even
generate more revenue.
