[Owasp-board] Organizational Change and the OWASP Staff

Hi Sam
I assumed you (Staff) were consulted on the idea of the exec director role, or possible structural change.

I was one of the devils advocates in the process if that helps. I believe the board can be somewhat myopic at times, focusing on the task and less of possible impact to other staff members.

Not all promotions need to be opened to the public if a suitable candidate has already been identified.

I believe the possible structural change should of been communicated to staff prior to selection of the candidate.

For me this was a case of enthusiasm and energy by board members coming before due process but no ill will or underhandedness was intended.

We are very happy Sarah was chosen for the ED role as we feel she is a great candidate that all stakeholders will agree, is the best choice for this position.
> However, we feel it is important we inform you of our discomfort in the manner in which this change was handled. We feel that the announcement of the new director role on the Leaders list gave the impression that this position would be open to the public for applicants. This really gives off a deceptive undertone as we now realize that this position is, in fact, already filled. Moreover, a member of the board lead the community to believe that the staff was consulted before this new role was created. This gives the community the impression that the board, at the very least, asked for our thoughts on the idea before the announcement was made. This also gives off a deceptive undertone as Kelly, Alison nor I knew anything about the intention to create this new role. We would have supported Sarah unconditionally if you had asked us about your intentions.
> We are not asking to be consulted before decisions are made as we know it is not something you have to do as the board of directors. We are only asking that you show us the consideration and respect we feel we deserve as very hard working and dedicated staff members of the OWASP Foundation. This includes, giving us a heads up when our jobs and team dynamic will change dramatically. We feel this isn't too much to ask considering how dedicated we are, and how hard we work to serve the organization, the community, and the board itself.
> That being said, we will support and honor your decision as our board, and we will happily support Sarah with the transition into her new role.
