OWASP Board and Chapter Committee Members,

Today we experienced what I classified to Matt as a "good problem" with our
April OWASP Austin Chapter Meeting. For the last four months we have been
experimenting with the capability to broadcast our meetings live to members
of our OWASP community. We've experienced minor issues here and there that
we've overcome, but today was the first that may be outside of our
chapter's control. I was not aware of it, but apparently our GoToMeeting
account is limited to a maximum of 26 meeting attendees. At today's
meeting, we hit that limit and people trying to join the meeting were
greeted with a message telling them that our meeting was full and to try
back again later. From a meeting organizer perspective, I got several
popups that showed people were attempting to join and asking me if I wanted
to boot someone to let them join. To state the obvious, this is a great
problem to have since it means that we just spread the OWASP mission to 26+
people beyond the physical boundaries of our meeting. That said, it is
still a problem and I would like to work with the board to see if it is
possible to add additional licensing to the GoToMeeting contract to extend
our ability beyond the current 26 person limit.

Also, I wanted to give you all a heads-up that our Austin Chapter intends
to purchase some equipment with our chapter funds in order to better
facilitate these virtual meetings going forward. Specifically, we intend
to purchase two small netbook computers for use by the presenter and the
virtual meeting organizer. We also intend to purchase a wireless lapel
microphone system for the speaker and a small audio mixer to better control
the sound quality for the online attendees. I doubt that anyone will have
any issues with this since we plan on using money currently in our chapter
account for it, but I wanted to share the plan with you before any
purchases are made.

The ultimate goal of this experiment is to create a template of equipment
and procedures that other chapters can use in order to do the same for
their meetings. Imagine how far our mission can spread if we had a large
number of our chapters syndicating their content on a regular basis! We
could create a catalog of both past and future presentations in many
different languages from locations around the world. Please let me know if
you have any questions.
