I think we should open up the process and send the request (at least) to the
The fact that there is a limitation that the intern needs to have physical
proximity to a Board member will limit the talent pool and applicant's
location (and most likely will result in Dave's proposed outcome).
By opening this up we:
a) are consistent with our open and transparent nature way of running OWASP
b) send a warning shot to our leaders that OWASP will have resources
available to ALL OWASP projects (and that they will be able to request for
help on their projects)
c) we plant the seed for the concept of 'OWASP Interns' (who might create
new opportunities in the future)

Fellow Board Members,
Are any of you interested in mentoring the 2nd OWASP intern this summer?
Jeff and I are willing to mentor both of them.
If one of you wants to volunteer and can find a suitable intern to work with
you in your work location then we are happy to let one of you work with one,
while we work with the other.
We have already agreed to bring back our intern from last year, Craig
Younkins, to work on ESAPI.
If I don't hear of any other volunteers in the next few days, we will look
to find and hire the 2nd one as well. I have 3 resumes of local candidates
already on my desk. If you want to volunteer you are going to have to go
fast because summer starts in like 4 weeks. Given the short time frame I
don't think we really have time to open this up to a broad candidate search,
especially since the candidate needs to be local to us.
We'd like to offer to the other projects the use of part or all of this 2nd
intern's time, but if we don't identify anything concrete for them to do,
that they are capable of, then they would both probably work on ESAPI.
My thoughts anyway.
