[Owasp-board] Global Affinity Credit Card Program

I don’t think such a heavy discount would be appropriate. I could get such a CC and then never use it, except to get a huge discount at OWASP events, thus netting us even less $ over time rather than more.

What about the design of the card? Which options give us more control?
Apart from the obvious branding message, the card could also be provided as a ID at our conferences or chapter events.
What about giving some discounts to people who have this card?
Actually, thinking about it , what about saying that if you have an OWASP CC you can attend any our conferences at 50% or 25% or 0% (free) of the attendance price?
This is actually a question for the membership committee, Tom B, over to you :)

I think we should pass since we can’t do an international or at least US and Europe card. And few will use a Credit card that doesn’t give them at least something in return.
However, I’m not hard over on this and don’t see too much harm in trying if others are really gung ho on this idea.
OWASP could at least sign up for and start using its own credit card J

I have been looking into a ‘global affinity credit card program,’ and am having no luck finding anything. I have been able to find lots of information on affinity cards in the US, but none of the companies offer the cards to non-US citizens. Do we still want to go forward with this in the US?
The 2 best companies I have found so far are CardPartner (through UMB Bank) and Card Lab Connect (through Capital One). With Card Partner, we would receive $50 each time a new account is opened and then .3% of all purchases. With Card Lab Connect, we would receive $25 each time a new account is opened and then 1% of purchases. So if we were able to generate the same amount of accounts through either company, we would make more money through Card Lab Connect. However, CardPartner offers a rewards program to card holders, and Card Lab Connect does not. So we may be able to generate more accounts through CardPartner. The amount of accounts with CardPartner would have to be substantially higher though to make it generate more revenue then Card Lab Connect.
Let me know what everyone’s thoughts are on this…..
