[Owasp-board] co hosted events with ISSA

A couple of weeks ago I was able to connect with Kevin Richards, Vice
President of International Affairs, with ISSA. My communication was an
effort to identify a solution to the challenges presented by our overseas
chapters regarding financial transactions and funding. Mr. Richards gave me
a lot of helpful information which I am taking to the conference and chapter
committees.

At the end of the call, Mr. Richards inquired about the possibility of a
joint event - OWASP and ISSA. I discussed this with the conference
committee, and we cannot seem to decide if this would be a good thing or a
bad thing. I am requesting input from the board. Ironically, since that
time, I have had several chapter leaders indicate that they often hold their
meetings in conjunction with ISSA. Brazil is considering holding an AppSec
Conference in 2009 with ISSA. I have been asked to provide direction to the
chapter leaders on this topic, but I need your direction.

Here is the information/questions I have gathered so far:

1. Many owasp members/leaders are members/leaders of ISSA

2. ISSA is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to security

3. ISSA is geared more for management - OWASP is geared for programmers

4. ISSA does not actually "DO" anything - OWASP provides documented
solutions and projects to the industry

5. A joint event would reduce costs associated with the event
(Sponsorship funds are scarce so far this year)

6. What is the level of competitiveness associated with joining forces?

7. ISSA President is also president of ISC(2)

8. Would it be possible to divide event into 2 tracks - one OWASP and
one ISSA

9. We could recruit ISSA members to become OWASP members

Please provide some feedback.

Thanks for your time.
