Agree, not good at all.
According to the WIKI page their last meeting was in July
https://www.owasp.org/index.php/Melbourne . There is more activity on the
mailing lists (see
and a quick read of its posts highlighted some the issues raised below
This is definitely an issue that should be addressed by the Global Chapters

> I would like to discuss some issues we having with the Melbourne OWASP
> chapter recently and how we can recover the chapter.
> Below is a summary of some of the issues we have been having recently:
> 1. In-frequent meetings and scheduled meetings are not held - This year
> there was only 2 chapter meetings which does not meet the min requirements
> in the Chapter Guide or the Members expectations.
> 2. Meetings are often not web-app-sec related and are often Vendor
> 3. No meeting minutes posted (does not meet the min requiremnts in the
> Chapter Guide).
> 4. No discussion of what is happening with OWASP globally / projects
> occurs, nor of the OWASP principles.
> 5. No Chapter Board or committee present (one person makes all the
> decisions for the Chapter)
> 6. Claims have been raised my Members that the Chapter leader has used
> their position (as chapter leader) to gain commercial advantage for the
> company they work for.
> 7. At the request of the previous chapter leader (Serg) a majority of the
> members preference are for after hours meetings - this discussion has been
> "over-written" by the Chapter leader who will be holding the next three
> meetings during lunch hours.
> 8. The venue has also been a topic of discussion as not being vendor
> independent and not offering after hours access (possible reason for lunch
> meetings?), nor does it offer anonymous attendance. There have been other
> alternative venues offered by members, which may be more suitable.
> In summary, I do not feel that the Melbourne OWASP Chapter members are
> benefiting at all from the current leadership - other members have also
> expressed this opinion.
> I would really like to see the Melbourne Chapter live up to it's potential
> but for this to occur we may need a change of leadership. What do you
> suggest the Melbourne Chapter members can do to resolve this issue?
> I know several people who are willing to put in the time to run the
> Chapter including myself.
