[Owasp-leaders] OWASP Membership

I would like to see corporate membership targeted to the individual
employee. Example being.

$50/1-5 memberships per unique corp.

$40/6-10 memberships per unique corp.

$30/10-25 memberships per unique corp.

This could also help spur word of mouth around the coffee pot as well
increase membership.

I have thougt about this with the corporate sponors also but here are my
concerns:

a.) We can offer the long term options but if too many companies jump on the
wagon, it may impact our funding for grants/season of code projects

b.) Consolidating to the single model pricing of cutting it down to $5,000
help companies that are losing marketing budgets, offering long term
discounts may not entice them. we are in a financial crisis.

An idea I had was for the grants/season of code projects, list them all with
the detailed project plans. Have paid members and sponsors review the plans
and vote whether the project adds value to OWASP's Members and Sponsors.
Also, Create a button for donating to a specific project OR enhancement of a
current project (example: multiple programming language ESAPI or Anti-SAMY).
Possibly take a Corporate Donation of $500, $1000 or whatever on a Specific
Project. Everyone who sponsors a project gets placement on the loading
screen of the project (example: when adobe products load, they list the
developers and project contributors). This then becomes a requirement for
all coded projects going forward. Part of the donations of each project go
towards funding that group to attend the OWASP Summit.

I am just ranting right now with ideas how we can keep funding coming in
during these tough financial times.

I really like this idea as well. And it also gives individuals something to
hang their hat on if they want to donate more than the $50 or $100 annual
membership.

I think we might even want to extend this same model to corporate
sponsorships, don't you think? With the same scale, but 100x bigger since a
corporate sponsorship is $5000 / year.

I think you should keep the Lifetime 1000 USD (since it makes the 5 Year
look cheap :) ) but would drop the EPL Lifetime Membership $1000.00 (40
payments of $25)

I like it, but I'd lower lifetime to $500. I think $1k is way too much.

With the economic crash, OWASP pulled through by lowering it's price for
membership.
I think it's a great thing, but can I add something?

How about offering this model?
1 Year Membership $50.00
2 Year Membership $95.00
3 Year Membership $135.00
5 Year Membership $200.00
Lifetime Membership $1000.00
EPL Lifetime Membership $1000.00 (40 payments of $25)

This way the smart ones will buy the 5 year or lifetime to avoid price
increases in the future.
With a model like this, I would start the precidence and be the first to get
a 5 Year Membership.

As leaders, we should all be contributing. I plan on making it a requirement
for all my local committee members.
Shouldn't this also be a requirement for OWASP On-The-Move Money and
Applying for Season of Code funding?

I am curious as to what others think, any input is valuable.

Thank You!

Tom Ryan
