[OWASP-Chapters] FW: OWASP IL leaders meeting summary

Hi All,

 

In order to push forward the OWASP IL chapter, I've established a group
of OWASP IL leaders, which includes people who approached me during the
1st chapter's meeting and said that they want to contribute. We
currently have 10 people in the group and they seem to be active and
working. While I know many of them, some are new acquaintances - so it
is not just a "friends" group. We held a first leaders meeting last week
and this e-mail summarizes it. I think that it is interesting and may
provide ideas for other chapters as well. We have decided to hold
monthly leaders meetings. 

 

We have decided to embark on the following activities, which I think
blend well OWASP goals with local flavor. Each one of them is led by a
different leader which makes it possible that we will actually achieve
some of these ambitious goals.

 

- Periodical meetings: The obvious. 

 

- Content: Includes translation of OWASP documents such as the OWASP top
10 and the OWASP guide to Hebrew. Apart from translation we are also
looking for publishing short articles (in Hebrew) about application
security. Like the corresponding general OWASP project, this would
provide an opportunity for people to publish (again, in Hebrew, for
local audience) and get immediate recognition.

 

- PR: Establish channels to local the media in order to push OWASP and
application security stories suitable for the media and establish OWASP
as a reference for comments about related news stories.

 

- Education: Effort to create academic level education material about
application security and push it to Israeli Universities, Colleges and
commercial training companies. We are also shooting for an academic
level application security conference in Israel.

 

- Legal: Establish relations with Israeli law and regulation
enforcements organizations in Israel in order to incorporate application
security requirements and reference to OWASP standards in them.

 

- Web site: the chapter is planning of having a web site
(www.owasp.org.il <http://www.owasp.org.il/> ) to publish Hebrew
application security content and the chapter's activities.

 

One none project issue: Sponsorships. We have currently found two areas
in which we believe sponsorship can provide mutual benefit to OWASP and
to the sponsor without harming our non commercial nature:

- Meetings hosting.

- OWASP document translations.
