In a perfect world it would be free to post a job on the OWASP website....
but that is the focus of job boards such as Monster, Guru, Hot Jobs etc...
management of the ad's and the vetting of the firms etc... is a task for
someone - hence I suggest we simply remove it here is why.
It would be better to promote OWASP to Professional Career firms realize the
value of OWASP and association to its brand and community join as a
corporate member - then they can have the brand awareness to the community
as a resource. As a example: "Help Wanted"

talking at the NYC event.

Hi Board,
Here's a simple question - should we lower the Job Board posting amount from
$250 to something much lower, say $25. Currently we're getting 1 or 2
postings a month. I find it hard to imagine that cost actually preventing a
company like eTrade! from posting, but perhaps it appears too commercial?

Hi Ross,
The only reason for the charge is to minimize abuse by headhunters wanting
to exploit OWASP to make money. We work extremely hard to keep commercial
interests out of OWASP. We believe this increases our independence and
allows us to keep our output objective.
I'm not sure how our rate compares to the going rate, and I'm not sure it's
important anyway. We haven't been getting that much traction with our page,
so perhaps the rate is too high. I'm going to take the idea of lowering the
charge to the board, and I don't see any reason why we wouldn't do that.
What charge do you think would be appropriate.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas about how we can
make OWASP better. I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks,
--Jeff

To whom it may concern;
I am the CISO for E*Trade Financial and have a job opening for a Sr.
Application Security Specialist. I was just told by the hiring manager for
this position that OWASP charges $250 to post a job for 30 days - why in the
world would OWASP charge a fee to post a job opening? That just doesn't
make any sense to me.
I am also on the Board of Directors for the Silicon Valley Chapter of the
ISSA and as a service to our members we post openings on our web site at no
charge. We believe this assists our members find employment opportunities
when needed.
I would hope that OWASP could do the same.
Thanks,
Russ
