Abstract:
Modern web technologies, supported now by all major browsers, permit the creation of sophisticated web applications with features previously seen on native applications. Their UI is rich, they can work in offline mode, they have complex client state and they employ sophisticated communication protocols. While obviously beneficial to web application developers and users, those technologies disrupt existing web application security scanners. Crawling JavaScript-heavy applications is hard, attacking their client-server communication channels is even harder. Does it mean Web2.0 will make automatic black-box web application security testing impossible? In this lecture we're going to explore specific problems of Web2.0 security testing and try to find solutions that allow the creation of new generations of web testing tools well suited to existing and predicted web application environment.
